i am downloading a torrent, and i cannot turn my pc off, but i want the fans to be able to work well so it does not overheat, and i think that by putting it upside down or on its side it would be giving the fans the highest ability to mix with the air around it, but i am worried about the effects of putting a laptop on its side. help me please?!?

No the laptop would be fine the only device that could have a problem is a hard disk but these work in any orientation so you will be fine!

well this question is a little tricky because it depends on the laptop and if it can take the weight of the computer on the side pressure points. The fans will work just as well on a completely flat surface since most intakes are on the bottom and expel the air to the sides. It basically only matters if you sit the computer on your bed or something soft that will form to the shape of the laptop.

I've seen some accessories for laptop in the market which you put you laptop on it.The device has its own fans and keeps you laptop cool. I also leave my laptop downloading for several days sometimes. I use another trick, I put two small objects like cigarette packets under the laptop so that it gets about 2 cm higher than the table. In this way the air will always be mixed in its fans. I think you better don't put it on its side.

Firstly your laptop will not overheat while the fan is running if it is on side, inside upside down, inside out or sat normally. If you wish to then yes put it on it's side it won't cause a problem.

You can put the system on its side as long as it won't fall over. My recomendation however is if you intend to leave the system running for long periods of time get a cooling pad. These pads have oversized fans and the computer sets on top of it. They are generally powered by a USB port and can be found at any Wal Mart for around 20.00. I leave my computer on 24\7 and it stays nice and cool.

Try this: elevate the computer onto something hollow or with a hole underneath so that the computer's fan is off the ground but the computer is stil right side up. Putting it on its side risks damage and you cannot say afterwards that your warranty should pay for it since they don't intend it to be on its side

A laptop is designed to work when it is flat. Just make sure it is on a firm surface, not on a carpet or bedding. The hard disk should be horizontal.
