I've called my bank before and asked for a reduction. Since I've been with my bank a long time, they were happy to cut the fees from the past 15 days in half for me.

Some banks have overdraft protection, it's usually a line of credit so you end up paying interest, but if you pay it back quickly that's still cheaper than paying per-transaction overdraft fees.

I always got hit hard when the bank would process the big transactions first and then a bunch of small ones after it, accumulating more fees by doing so. There was plenty of money for the small transactions and they were initiated first, but it didn't matter. Banks are sneaky, you have to find a way to get your financial timing right so that they don't outsmart you. Use one account for bills and a separate account just for miscellaneous spending. That seems to help keep things under control for me.

You need to get a calculator. Also, you can probably talk to the bank if you've only done it once or twice and they may be willing to credit your money, but over and over, no way.
