Venetian, Luxor and Bellagio are the best, but pricey. We stayed in the Imperial Palace which was cheaper but still very nice. Word of warning though if you want to stay on the strip don't stay in Circus Circus or the Stratosphere. Circus Circus is a dirty dump full of screaming children and Stratosphere is nice but it 's a long walk to get to the main strip, although it is described as being ON the strip. It is, just a lot further down and out of the action!
We had a fab time, the casinos were amazing so big! Take time to see all the hotels, they're full of great stuff to do. Take a trip to the Hoover Dam it's well worth a visit and go to the Grand Canyon! We did a helicopter and boat ride which was breat taking. Make sure you book your trips through the hotel, it's slightly more money but full insurance and safety is guaranteed.
Have a great time - I thought it was fantastic

New Years is peak peak season! Book early, and expect it'll be pricey. I'd research a little and start by figuring out where you actually want to ring in the New Year. Then decide if you can afford to get a room there and party tickets. Most hotels will run a package with their parties (doesn't mean it's cheap though). If it's too much, check a map to see what other hotels are walking distance or plan on a long cab line.
I've never done New Years but I've always had a great time at the Rio (walking distance to nothing but maybe the Palms, if you're daring) and Harrah's (central strip). I stay away from the oldest stuff and I'm tragically out of place at the trendy joints.

You have the Wynn hotel on the strip as well as Bellagio. There is the Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, the Red Rock hotel in Summerlin and the Four Seasons hotel @ the Mandalay Resort which is also on the strip. Good luck and book early

You've probably got time to check out which hotels are offering which deals. I suggest you look for something located centrally on the Strip. You don't have to choose the most expensive or the newest to have a great time. The Strip hotel properties are located VERY close together. You can book into a smaller hotel and still enjoy the atmosphere of its flashy neighbor.

check the travel sites to see what sort of deal you can find for transport and hotel. The deals can vary.

Get a room anywhere you can, book now! Rooms for NYE start about $500 a night, and go up from there. Usually you can't just book that night either, you have to book the day before as well (no NYE arrivals). Any hotel would be fine, just pick something on the strip. But do it quick- they WILL sell out, and the closer it gets to NYE, the more expensive they will get.

If you can afford to stay at the Bellagio you should - It's out of this world!!

If not the Luxor is a good cheaper alternative.

Enjoy!!

I recommend the RIO. Great rooms, cool casino -- not exactly on the main drag, but you can take their free shuttle to most of the other casinos.
