I need an excuse on why I choose to not drink any alcholoic beverages. I feel that it is a drug, a crutch, is extremely dangerous, and can have a perfectly good time without it. I like being in control of my body, and that is why I don't drink. However, when people I barely know ask me why I don't drink, etc.: what should I say that is short and sweet and gets the job done, without giving them a sermon and handing out pamphlets, therfore making them uncomfortable about their drinking habits.

You can just say that it goes against your personal and religious ideals to do so.

As an adult you really don't need to explain to anyone why you don't drink, but if you feel better giving an explanation then just say I don't drink because I choose not too, I don't find any pleasure in it it's expensive and leaves you with bad breath and a bad head the next day, but go ahead and enjoy yourself it doesn't bother me to be around others that drink, that's what I say, I don't drink either and get asked this question all the time..

Why do you need an excuse? You already have all your reasons lined up coming; up with more of them isn't going to be useful. Other people eat and drink what they want without offering explanations. A lot of people don't like the taste of alcoholic beverages. Other people are concerned about gaining weight on the large number of empty calories. Just order what you want. Thank you I'll have plain orange juice. If somebody asks you why you don't drink alcohol you could say it is your personal preference. You could say because I don't want to. You could say, it's not on my diet. You could say "I took the pledge." You could say because I am a grown up and I don't have to drink anything I don't want. You could say because I am an alcoholic with related schizophrenia and if I take a single sip of alcohol I will turn into a raging chainsaw mass murderer so why don't you MYOB. Or you could just drink your orange juice and start a conversation about something interesting.

Make it short sweet and to the point ...say something like "I'm not a drinker and better off for it !" Should they say anything more ,just pay no attention. You explained it once and need not worry about them or their opinion of the matter.Who are they to judge if you drink or not ? It is your preference. You are not missing out on anything except hang overs and a possible DWI ! And who needs those? By the way good for you !

I dont drink, Maybe a everyonce in blue moon, which is not much, sips of beer, & then that gives me a Headahe. Im always feeling Uncomftable around drinkers, I try to talk to them before they get paid, or the weekends, i lived with a drunk, i seen my best friend Die from booze, When people ask me why i dont drink? i simpley say, short, sorry, Im not a Drinker, I leave it as that, unless they piss me off. ohhh dont get me started on this topic, i could go on all day. If they dont except you for being Sobor? well, You have to except them right? somewhere It has to come to terms, Hugs & good luck my Friend.

Just have sex with an Irish person. That will make you Irish enough. Or you can be like my grandmother and just pretend you're Irish. The Irish don't care as long as they have someone to drink with

I find it weird that in society it is the nondrinkers that have to have the excuse and not the other way around. Just be honest..."I don't drink!" If they ask, ask back..."Why do you drink?" When they are finished explaining say, "I don't need any of those things...and that is why I don't drink."

Just saying that you don't like the taste of alcohol should be enough. But if you really need an excuse like that, say that alcoholism runs in your family. Works EVERY time.

tell them exactly that, that you like being in control of your body and you find that you can have a good time without it. **sweet and simple**

don't worry about making them feel uncomfortable about their drinking habits that is their choice and maybe making them feel like that will have a positive effect on them.

I believe the same thing and I tell people the same thing... well almost. I say "I don't drink." Most of the time they just leave it. If they really wanna know... then explain to them the truth. . . If your not digging on telling the whole story.. tell em alchol makes you sick.

I don't drink because I am driving home. or I don't drink because I don't want to. YOu don't need to make up a story, just tell the truth.
