When I go to school, I alsways here that we learn history to learn from it, but in every chapter of the history book, there is war, poverty, ending civilizations, controlling empires and greed. To solve these problems, man needs to realize that we shouldn't be fighting each other, or competing against countries, we are all human beings living life and needing the same needs. I suppose that the greatest problems of all ( from the past ) is Selfishness. It caused wars for land, and competivness between others for food in a land of shortage, ending civilizations because of wants for power, and controlling empires for the greatness that they are promised to be obtained. Mankinds problem for the present is the rising difficulties with shortages. We have had to create words for other countries that have less than others - Third World Countries. Shortages such as food, oil, and animal species ( extinction ). But for the future mankinds problem is surpluce. A surpluce of water and heated temperatures. Global Wamring is in the present as well as the shortages, but will greatly impact he world in the future. Because of our selfishness, the world has become endangered as we know it with the rising temperatures and water levels. Animals are becoming closer to extinction than ever before and it lays the shoulders of mankind. Like I wrote before, we need to come together as one, not a divided world between races and genders and realize that as divided we fall.

The greatest problem we have? Good question to get a person thinking.
Getting everyone to see each other person as a valid, important member of the human race is the problem. Perhaps having well programmed robots to raise our children without our prejudices and silly notions as well as hate, would be a good solution?

The greatest problem that we have is not knowing why we are here on this God given earth.
God gave us this earth for a reason.
For a test.
We are in the middle of a test and God is the judge of our outcome.
Will we pass or fail?
The closer that we become to our father in heaven, the more we will realize that we have been focusing on the wrong things all along.

The greatest problems that have existed throughout all history are rooted to basic, unchanging principles.
These principles are rooted to the "Golden Rule"
Do to others as you would have others to to you.
This may also be simply rephrased by matter of intent to:
Love your neighbor.
These are the most basic of all principles that ought to be followed by all humans.
From this springs all principles of goodness and uprightness.
Things such as not murdering, not stealing, fidelity in marriage, chastity(not to be confused with celibacy, except for those unable to wed), not coveting your neighbors possessions or property or wife, honoring our parents and elders, honesty, not stealing, respect to women and children, hard work, humility, supporting one's family, etc...
I could go one but I don't have to because every human being is born with the ability to choose between following these basic principles that invariably have good consequences or to choose thoughts, words and actions that go against these basic principles and reap the bad rewards of doing so and also cause others to suffer.
It's all very simple really.
When people live by these principles they are happy and they prosper in wealth, wisdom, health, etc...
When they do not live by these principles and teach them to their children; then they are unhappy and they do not prosper but suffer pain, sorrow, ignorance, death, famine, and overall misery.
Yes, the problem can be solved only when individuals change and choose these good principles; when parents start teaching their children to choose what they know deep in their heart is right ,which I have mentioned earlier in this answer.
Everyone of us knows what is right and wrong.
Where do you stand?

Finding more space for humanity.
Since the dawn of civilization, humans have only grown and solved their problems once they have found more land on which to live. The problems are solved but once the land is filled with people and natural resources are stretched to its limits, the age old problems return. These days, in this the 21st century and the beginning of a new millenium, we find ourselves with a shortage of land. Going forwards, common sense tells us that the contemporary remedy is to colonize space.

Socialism and self-loathing. Socialism, or the taking of hard-earned wealth from those who earned it to give to those who didn't, encourages laziness and complacency in the less motivated.
Jesus said: Love one another as yourself. If you hate yourself, you CANNOT love others or treat them with respect.
Solutions: Reduction of the role of government in the lives of people, and a return to Christian values.

Self-hatred is the greatest problem.
Self-love is the solution.
When a man hates himself, he may destroy himself or he may hate others, become cruel & destroy others. The greatest atrocities throughout history have been committed by powerful men fueled by self-loathing who turned their hatred outward, created an enemy and sought to destroy it. (For example, Hitler...Think of the thousands of lives that might have been spared if Hitler had liked himself.)
