we were using cat litter for our rabbit's litter box but then we changed it to a litter that's made entirely of wood pieces, because it's safer and better for the environment. but she doesnt seem to want to use the box anymore, she mostly goes to the toilet outside it, on the floor. she's always done that but now it's worse. why does she do that? and how can i get her to use the tray and only the tray?
thanks in advance.
(btw i read that rabbits leave droppings outside the box to mark territory, but seeing as there are no other animals in the house i cant see why my rabbit does it)

She is telling you she is upset because you have changed something in her environment and she doesn't like it.
I suggest first trying to stick with the wood based litter as the normal cat litter can swell if they eat it. Every time she goes to the toilet elsewhere, Pick up the droppings and put them in the litter box. If you do this for a few days, she might take the hint that she is only supposed to go there. My rabbit did, and she only poops all over if she is upset with me!

If not you may have to resort to the "changing food method"
As you know, you have to gradually introduce a new food to a rabbit otherwise they may get ill. You may have to put normal cat litter back in her tray and gradually add more and more of the wood based litter until the other is phased out.

Good luck x let me know how it goes

rabbits don't like a change you should have put the shavings in from day one but give it time your rabbit will go in the litter tray again try coxing him or her to us it with food put some straw in the corner and if you do see the rabbit lifting its tail up to do its biz other then the litter tray shout NO put it in the tray and after a bit it will use it again just make sure you praise the rabbit after its done a good job give it a cuddle yes i know it sound like I'm talking about a cat or dog but they do learn there not silly anyway this is what i do and i got it from a rescue centre here is there link they have good tips http://www.greenwichrabbitrescue.com/ have a look its good hope your Bunnie learns fast for you

Well, i have got a lot of rabbits at home. approximately 42rabbits.i think she is used to it, i mean the cat litter box and due to this will never accept a real rabbit litter box.i recommend you continue using the cat's litter box cause she likes that.hope you like the idea.

Try putting some rabbit poo into the litter box, that worked with my rabbits.

if you use a mix of cat litter with new for a while and gradually reduce it it may help her get adjusted to the new one.
