It means having a sense of inner peace. All circumstances in our lives change: income, health, relationships, etc. Having a sense of who you are and maintaining a calm center is really the only way to have constancy in life. It is the way to live well regardless of what your life circumstances are.

I never did understood the quote, like--revenge toward WHOM? WHAT? Anyway.
Gosh. After answering your question about responsibility, just glancing at the answers here, there seemed quite a bit of self orientation: "Find happiness where & whenever you can; Not caring what anyone else thinks; Having what you want, Getting a well paid job; Show them they don't mean anything."
Rikki's answer was the only one that expressed the "inner peace..calm center.." as the way to live well regardless of life's circumstances. Living well, to me, is feeling harmony in my life--as much as is possible; time for dreams & introspection & always time for friends (even strangers); being open to new perspectives & always aware of every beautiful &/or humourous thing in each day. "Being there" for those who need someone, yet space to be alone in silence. Ever evolving--taking the journey alone, & with others. Willing to change my path...

It isn't what car you drive or how big your house is or what clothes you wear. While these things might be nice, you could have the biggest and best of everything and still not be happy. Living well is enjoying your life, being happy with who you are, loving yourself, others & life. Not caring what anyone else thinks or does. Being healthy and happy and having what you want.

Being happy and not letting the person who is trying; get you down. Show them that anything they're attempting to do to make you unhappy isn't working. It's not even a blip on your radar. Nothing pisses off a person who is trying to bring you down more; than to show them they don't mean anything.
