I really think it's because people have an affinity with an actual bank branch. People trust a brick-and-motor establishment more than an online establishment. I really think Emigrant and ING have succeeded as banks online because they have a presence in the "real-world." E-Loan is one of the best customer service oriented banks in the online market. FNBO Direct is also a great online savings bank.

I really think CircleLending or Zopa are great borrower or lending sites. I personally lend on Prosper; it is a great site but is risky for lenders as those with a 520-600 credit score can borrow on Prosper. One lesson learned is that default rates dramatically drop with zero delinquencies as well as great financials regardless of credit score. Cardweb offers a lot of cards as well for unsecured borrowing. These are great places to both borrow and lend.

Zecco is a top online broker (for individual stocks and exchange-traded funds, ETFs). Fidelity has so many resources to assist you in successfully being an independent investor. Vanguard has index funds for sit-and-wait passive investing. These are great brokerage firms. Unlike Zecco, Scottrade is very branch-oriented. Scottrade has $7 trades while Zecco doesn't charge for trades. However, if you want a mutual fund, I prefer Scottrade to Zecco since Scottrade has many NTF no-load funds including ValueLine (great historical performance). Remember, past performance is no guarantee of future results. That's why Vanguard, Fidelity, and Zecco for ETFs are great companies to invest with.

With term life insurance, disability insurance, or long-term care insurance you want a highly rated company above A (maybe A+++ rated) regardless if it is an online company or a brick-and-motor one. Prudential may be a great company for pure protection (term insurance).

to hang bough or errs on.

(it grows in trees mostly - including the branches - but I think fruit fibres might be usable as paper)

part of it though is that the bank tries to protect the tree
'trunk' so they never seem to talk about it so all you see is the bank and the branches.. rather than the bank the trunk and the branches. most of the money is in the trunk of the tree, but it is a common misconception. More grows in than on - that is what interest is for. Keeping the tree nice and strong and letting the trunk get bigger and bigger and bigger.

I've even heard rumours that if a tree gets big enough all the money inside it turns to gold as little midas ants called commodity traders start to live inside of it, often after their larva feeds on those hanging off the branches. They are really cute little bugs, but can be annoying if they get into your picknic basket, as they look everywhere for food, but they'll eat near anything on the planet and bring it back to their hive. Much better than the avian credit collection agencies. always cah cah cahl ing

when the leaves start to fall off the banks it turns into topsoil which helps the economy giving nutrients back, and some runnoff going into the nearby stream which lets the lifecycle of the economy continue. of course dead bodies decompose too.

it does grow on trees -- there are millions and millions in the fruit and nut business world wide.. just another old folk tale that is untrue.
