I am going to replace my carpet with tile; and the molding boards will need to be cut to allow the tile to slide underneath. I have a curved wall; and I am afraid to remove the molding board for fear that it will break it. Besides it will not be easy to cut it even if it were off. Is there a tool that will allow me to cut my molding boards without taking them off? The critial issue is that I want a nice clean straight and level cut. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

They actually make a special saw for cutting the bottoms off of doors/moldings, etc. Contact a tool rental office or Sears.

Jazcomania has the right tool for you but it will not get into the corners so you will have a hard time there. I would suggest laying the tiles up close to the base board and simply adding quarter round or shoe mold trim. Adding this trim will be considerably less expensive than buying a jamb saw, also so simple to do.

You need a electric jamb saw...they adjust from almost flush to 1 1/2" I think. They are used alot to cut jambs and trim to allow tiles etc. to go under existing trim and door jambs. You would have to remove the carpet and and any nails, tack strips, etc. to use the saw because it rides on the floor as it cuts. You may be able to rent one somewhere or ask someone who does flooring. They take some experience to use...keep that in mind! Also, you may consider using a small quarter round trim to cover the edge where the tile meets the wall instead of cutting the trim.

How are you going to get the tile from under the molding.? will that not leave a space for the new tile.? and the carpet will go down same as the old........I would not cut the molding.

Try a backsaw. It is a saw with a stiffening edge along its spine. It is typically used to hand cut molding with a mitre-box but can be used on its own to cut molding on the wall.
