at the hospital where I work , transporters take patients either by wheelchair, stretcher, or on the bed, to tests, down to surgery, etc. They are trained on the job, without any previous experience or education beyond a high school diploma or g.e.d.. The pay is around minimum wage, maybe a bit higher, but the nice thing is, hospitals have good benefits. health/dental insurance, retirement... And you get to see all the areas of the hospital, in case you ever do want to pursue a career in nursing or radiology, respiratory therapy, those kinds of things.

A transport tech transports patients to tests and back to their rooms for example. Others may transport supplies to storage areas. Each facility would have its own standards of hours and wages.
