I never start rice cereal. It is heavily processed and stripped of most of the nutrients. Then they are fortified with iron unnaturally. That causes the body to not be as efficient in absorbing iron naturally from foods. I started with avocado at 6 months.

I started putting rice cereal in my sons bottle at 4 months to help his reflux and keep him full longer.

At 5 months I started giving him it from a bowl and spoon to get him ready for solids.

Now he eats his cereal first thing in the morning with baby fruit mixed in, but he is now 6 months old.

He was about 2 1/2 months old, and had a very stong swallow. It wasnt every day though, i just spoon fed him some with avacado or apple in it once in a while. Whenever I was really tired of breastfeeding, or whenever it seemed like boob juice wasnt enough.

Some times just for fun.

He's 6 months now and still pretty much exclusively breastfed, but he surely will eat anything. Hasnt hurt him a bit. He's 6 months and standing himself up, crawling and starting to make little words.

You can give them rice cereal whenever you want. They used to do it from birth in the old days. Didnt hurt your parents or grand parents as babies.

:)

Just did, he's 4 months and 5 days.

At first, it went everywhere but his mouth.. 2 days later, he ate 12 baby spoons... And was so happy, took an extra long nap.. next day, same thing, he's been loving it ever since..

Suggested age for cereal is anywhere between 4 and 6 months.. Fruit and veggies are not suggested untill 6 months b/c thats when babies develop enzymes in their intestines..

But its all judges on your baby's readiness, not age..

Good luck and happy solids!

It really depends on your baby's development and your doctor's advice. We started our daughter on rice cereal at four months with the doctor's ok. Four months is the minimum recommended age. Some doctors have you wait until six months. It just depends.

Hello there,
I breastfed all of my children and started rice cereal at about 6 months. They were all very plump, happy babies and obviously did not need anything else. They lost all that baby fat by the way.

6 mo is what is recommended by the American academy of pediatrics. You can start anywhere after 4 months. You do it with your comfort zone, and some kids won't like the "solid foods" until much later my daughter is just now really starting to accept them at 10 months!
