What you are doing in no way represents fishless cycling. You should go to http://www.fishlesscycling.com/ to learn the proper way to do it. You would be better off filling the 2.5 with water from the main tank when the babies are moved. This should be enough to get the cycle going. Babies put off hardly any waste, so go light on the food, and you won't have much ammonia being produced.

that would be a bad choice. let me get this straight, you want the goldfish to in a 2.5 gallon.

While yes a black moor may only cost 4 dollars, a proper set-up with a 55 gallon and canister filter will cost you 300 dollars.

It will not be good in there. Frankly 12-15 inch fish in a 2.5 gallon is madness.

get a 55 gallon or dont get the goldfish.

Your not making much sense, you want to cycle the tank for fry, but wnat to do it fishless, but you want the moor to be in there..... that makes no sense.

That is too small of a home for any goldfish. You'll kill it. It needs a 20 gallon tank. I wouldn't do that to that fish, its cruel.

NO. Plus anything smaller than a 29 gallon is Not good.
29 gallon minumum. (rule of thumb).

Goldfish make great tank cyclers. You sound like you've researched this and it's good to know it will go into a goldfish tank later.
