I am trying to drastically improve my hand technique. Is it absolutely necessary to practice this technique on the snare as well as the practice pad, because thus far I have only practiced on the pad. The reason I ask is because I'd rather not have to practice on the snare because it may be even more disturbing to my neighbors than my current drumming.
If I only practice on the pad, with my improvement simply convert easily when I move to the snare?

The snare has a different resonance due to the skin...you'll have to eventually move to the snare to get the hang of the tight skin compared to the practice pad.
