Maybe if we were reminded of the real cost of the policing of the Iraq civil war, America might insist on bringing the troops home.

In answer to some, I'm not sure how this question would make me a "commie."
I also do not "get off" on these pictures. On the contrary, they sadden me. I guess they don't impact some of you the way they do me.

I am old enough to remember Vietnam. A few friends never came back from that one, too. I went through the lottery, #179, and they only went to about 165 that year.

Not old enough to remember Vietnam eh? TV was still realtively "young" and the news media was moving way from showing actual news and moving more towards sensationalism. Every evening the 6 o'clock news would show footage of the events of the day as shot by those "reporters" imbedded with the vairous platoons and fire teams. People were seeing Johnny getting blown up and killed during their evening meal -- even before they'd received official notification that something had happened. A "popular war" suddenly became a gut wretching event. The days of "The greatest generation" were lost to a bunch of spineless idiots who didn't know that in war, people actually get maimed or die. Bush was trying to reestablish a sense of moral decency that has been lost. Yes, even in war, there is still moral decency.
Here's one for you. Currently, we are losing about 2.3 men a day there. In 1944, Patton lost on average 83 men a day -- just with the 3d Army! This, going up against a highly trained, uniformed, easily recognizable enemy. Unlike today's rag-tag, dress in civilian attire and hide behind womens skirts enemy. Oh, the things the media won't tell you...

You have of course answered your own question.
During the US atrocity and crime against humanity called the Vietnam War,the media constantly showed the body bags of slaughtered US soldiers being brought home.
Bush and the filthy lying neo-cons realized that these images were one of the main reasons Americans turned against the Vietrnam War and as a result, such images could never be allowed during the Iraq illegal war.
The filthy lying Bush told us that he denied these images to the media out of respect for the dead soldiers loved ones BUT most of these loved ones when asked would want a public, solemn ceremony honouring their dead son/daughter/father/mother/sister/brother return home .They see it as a "THANK YOU " for your sacrifice .
Sadly of course Bush and the neo-cons were entirely correct because without these DAILY PICTURES/IMAGES on our TV we repulsive lot who are making virtually no sacrifice at all for this war (In fact the wealthy are making a fortune from Bush's tax cuts ) can even PRETEND that there is no war .
As I always say,WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE .

Last I checked, the US still had a VOLUNTEER Army. I support our troops, and everything they are doing to protect the freedom of ourselves and our allies. People volunteer their lives to fight for our country because they believe that our motives are just and right. Anyone who enlists knows that there is a possibility that they may go to war, that they might see action, that they might fight, and that they might die.
What we need to remember first and most importantly is that whether you agree with the war or not, whether you agree with the troops being there or not, they ARE THERE. And you need to support them by being by their side as they do what they must to support the government and our freedom by whatever means necessary. Don't just sit around and tell them that all they are fighting for, and living for, and dying for is wrong. THAT'S THE WRONG MESSAGE TO SEND OUR BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN.

Because when we see the coffins of soldiers it makes the death caused by the war real. He wants as little negative press about the war as possible. It's ridiculous really, I guess freedom of the press is just another constitutional right that good old George couldn't care less about.

Because has no conscience and no morals. All he sees is dollar signs. He wanted this war at any cost from day one even if the price is American lives and billions of dollars.
