Allah The Allmighty says :

( 22-47 ) < And surely a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you number.>

It's mean that a Day by Allah is 1000 years in our reckoning in relation with the revolution of the Moon around the Earth ( it is the Hegire year) or the revolution of the Earth around the Sun ( Gregorian year).

And Allah says :

[70.4] To Him ascend the Angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years.

In this verse of the Sura 'The way of Ascent' ( it is the Way which take the Angels from the Earth to the Heaven after having excecuted the duties necessary for the Life of our Planet and the Kosmos. We can note that Allah doesn't say "fifty thousand years of what you number" because the day in question in this verse is a time measure of a Gods day ( which each day is 1000 years in our reckoning ) and this day is the age of the Universe which all events of our life from heaven to earth ascend to Him.

Let's convert these God's Years in our norms :

50,000 * 365.2422 (days in human year) = 18,262,110 Allah's Days.

One Day by Allah is corresponding 1000 years of our reckoning, therefore the Age of the Universe is :

18,262,110 * 1,000 = 18,262,110,000 years, that's to say that the age of the Universe is around 18, 1/4 Billions years. After more than 14 centuries, Science and particularly Professor Jean-Claude Batelere of the "College de France" states that it is now a certitude that the Universe is 18 billions years old .

The age of the universe is around 13.7 billion years old. Everyone tries to take their religious book and justify it by stating it is the true science. No religious book (neither the Bible nor the Quran) contains useful information on the age of the universe or any other astronomical fact.

Let it go! Just because Christians think their creationism is true, doesn't mean Muslims have to try to "one up" them, or anyone else. It's time to put away our superstitions and holy books and take a course in science.

Even not discounting the Qur'an as being an allegory, I would like to point out that "as" (in "is as a thousand") is not an absolute exact numeration; it means "more or less" leaving a lot of room for adjustment.

But if you insist on finding truth in your holy book, go ahead. Just don't be too surprised I do not follow you there and take my info form a more reliable source.

Right now, the best estimate of the age of the universe is 13.7 billion years, and the uncertainty on that value is much less than one billion year, putting the 18 billion years value in the "way off" territory.

I thought twelve billion years was the accepted age of the universe.

Our solar system is about five billion years old, and the Earth is about four billion years old.

While the misinterpretation of the Quran has led many to engage in antisocial and destructive behavior, literal interpretations of that book show it to be anything but an accurate guide to life or anything else. I don't think the Bible is much better. People would be better off learning to think for themselves and embracing the tenets of science.

The Quran states nothing of the sort. Some persons has taken passages out of context and by coincidence has come up with 18 billion years. Its a shame Bishop Ussher (who calcuated the start of the world in 4004 BC) didn't read the Quran.

The current scientific estimate is not 18 billion years. It is around 12 billion years.

It would help to know something about the person who wrote the Quran. How reliable is the information contained in the Quran?

If you really want to know, the Koran is a continuation of the Bible. Therefore it has no original statement to the origin of the Universe. It left all of that to the Bible.

I say we get all the gods together and let them fight it out. I mean, who really cares who the winner would be. Just think of it...lightning, thunder, fireballs...
