Hello,
The Victorian era from 1840 - 1900. A time of great invention, travel around the world and high adventure to be sure! Travelling then was almost as great as visiting new planets and new exotic cultures would be in the future.
Cheers,
Michael
PS - to that lady who likes the 60's! I went through that but they say if you remember the 60's you never really lived it! -:)

I'd rather live in the time era i am in now because if had lived in any other time Era I'd be dead before the time we reached this point. And I like this era because of the technological advances in computers, cell phones, video games, ecetera..The only thing I don't like about the era is consumer prices have gone up when back in the 1930's and 40's ,50's.. particularly around the 1900's you could buy coke for 5 cents, cars were cheaper, food was cheaper.

Dark Age Britain. I already do Dark Ages living history and re-enactment, because I find the whole period thoroughly fascinating, so to actually live in that era would be an experience and a half. I like the clothing, the languages, the cultural quirks, and the artisan skills - I'm one of those strange people who actually likes spinning, weaving, sewing, wood carving, and generally making everything I can by known Dark Age methods.

The 60's for sure!
Sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.
A time more innocent then the times we live in now.
Wars and war-fare and the way the media covered it were different in those days.
There was no AIDS in those days and sex was a more open and free-willed thing.
Women's rights and black's rights made huge leaps forward.
We had the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and on and on to listen to in those days.....now we are subjected to ex-mickey mouse clubbers and the like with no talent and no identity.
The 60's, even with all the terrible things that happened, were full of hope that we can make a difference. I would say there is no such movement for change these days and very little optamism that anything will improve for us.

as far as permanently living in an alternate era, I would say "no way, Hosea". people in 2007 are living some of the most leisurely lives in recorded human history. Computers and information allow us unrivaled access to the world. Air Conditioning? Democracy? How many other times in history have the rulers been answerable to the people? I can tell you, not too many.
And I find people who are romanticizing previous eras to be, quite frankly, laughable. The middle ages was catagorized by people who fell into two categories, serfs, and lords. The only difference, is that the serfs believed their lords to be ordained by God, so were happy to live miserable lives in his service. Screw that.
And cavemen?! what the heck are you gonna do when you get a toothache? Visit Dr. Ugg, dentist of the cavemen?
But to VISIT other eras... now that is different. As a history buff, I might go for weeks at a time to see various historical events.
I would love to see ancient Rome, and be able to compare and contrast its development, and observe its fall to get a real idea for why it fell at all. There are so many accounts as to why it fell, and how much it developed at all. To be able to see that would be amazing. Then head over to Judea and put to rest once and for all if Jesus really did perform miracles and ressurect. That would answer so many questions about religion that it is hard to fathom. Ancient Rome is my first choice.
I would like to visit Pre-WWII era Europe, and see what people thought of Hitler. The man was time's man of the year in the 1938. Neville Chamberlain pledged "peace in our time". Being able to recognize tyrants before they crop up would be invaluable for preventing wars. I could go visit my grandparents in America, too! When they were all my age!
Ancient Greece would be my third choice. I would love to visit Sparta; much of its culture is so mysterious because they never kept written records, everything was oral. And Spartan women were regarded as being some of the most beautiful (and independent!) women in the world! Then, maybe after Sparta, take a trip up to Athens and see the Academy. Imagine having the privilige to discuss philosophy with Plato and Aristotle themselves! The founders of western philosophy! Such an opportunity would be priceless!

Lived? I'm happy with 2007
Visit and observe? the court of Henry VIII as well as his daughter, Elizabeth I
Hundreds of years from now someone will ask this question and people will say "the beginning of the 21st century". Strange, isn't it?
But there is so much going on today that we actually do live in a very interesting time...computers, technology, email, cell phones, micro/fetal surgery and other medical advances, releatively pain free lives, shifts in some governments towards democracy, shifts by some governments back toward religous oppression (us), equality, travel, global warming..the list goes on...

I would have liked to be a teenager during the war years 1914-18 or after that by a bit, during the depression. i would have liked to see how i would have coped at such a period of history.
alternatively i wouldn't have minded living during the victorian era, as i imagine life was a lot simpler, without the internet, no mobile phones, no cinema, plus i would have loved to have investigated the ripper killings in London during the later 1800's.

Hi
Absolutely nothing appeals to me in this era.
We may have computers ,tv's,cars, microwave meals etc and people think that is progression.
I would like to be back to the beginning of the human race where they were actually more intelligent more considerate and all ages were willing to learn.
They learnt about themselves, what they were capable of in body and mind. ( And a lot more ).
This died with ancient Egypt.
This generation has progressed -sorry DEGENERATED to
stealing other peoples things, abusing each other and animals, the young don't want to learn anything and think they are invincible. ( Especially when walking in the road + driving). Worst still, they kill each other for FUN.!!!
And what kind of stupid person agrees to blow them self up and others to be some sort of hero. Why hasn't the one telling them to do it -done it themselves, have they got no ambition . I could go on and on but I think you got the idea.
We are responsible for our own actions.
Take care enjoy and learn.

Now. Long ago was more brutal, lives were harder, and I can't even imagine what the future might bring. It's a very different world from when I was a child, retrospect makes it seem idyllic, but it is easy to overlook all the deficiencies. I am happy to be in the here and now, seeing the future as it unfolds.
