Wouldn't his hair be steel-like as well? Maybe his hair doesn't grow!

It been said in the comics that he used his heat vision reflected off a mirror. They even used this during the Lois and Clark TV series.

In the Superman volume of "The Encyclopedia of Comic Book Heroes", a series of books published in the late 1970s, it says that Supes cut his hair, shaved, and trimmed his fingernails with x-ray vision, or sometimes he had Supergirl do it with hers.

According to the comics his hair doesn't grow (or at least it didn't used to. His beard however does and he uses his heat vision bounced off of a reflective surface to burn it off at need.
