Yes, it does.

Once Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and became aware of both good and evil, they discovered their own nakedness and learned of shame.

So, with knowkledge, comes the burden of both good and evil.
Just as pandora's box, great discoveries of science such as dynamite and the atomic bomb have dmaged the souls of the creators.

Ah, t'is dangerous as well.....As Voltaire once said, "It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong."

Smart does hurt.
Bein' dumb ain't no picnic either.

Perhaps you should preface this, "If you are smart..."

I am a man and therefore as dumb as a stick which is why women may cast me away like garbage. (Playing for the sympathy vote there.)

People ask me what two and two is and I say, "more of the same".

They want to know the secret of the Universe and I tell them, "If I told you then it would not be a secret anymore." and they don't believe me.

They ask me how many roads must a man walk down before he's considered a man and I let them know, "It is just one if he never asks for directions."

And that is when they hit me.

I can only imagine what they would do to a smart guy.

BTW, I have known people who actually had brain cramps. and brain farts for that matter. So the answer is Yes for some and "Huh?" for everyone else.

Yes. The more you know, the more you understand about how truly distressing the world it. Your thirst for knowledge is unquenchable and you are constantly seeking to know more, to understand more, and you begin to understand that you really cannot comprehend anything to its full capacity. We can only catch a glimpse of the disorder of the universe. Many highly intelligent people are completely miserable, some do drugs, some drink, some are just depressed some drives those around them mad with their narcicism or soiciopathy fueled by their love of nothing more than their own genius, and still others overthink everything. Sometimes I think intelligence makes you nuts, literally and figureatively.

Yes, sometimes it does, but it hurts to be stupid, too.
Given the option I'd choose being smart over being stupid. Being smart doesn't mean you can avoid being hurt, but you're more likely to see it coming and brace yourself.

With intelligence comes awareness and responsibility. Often times those bring pain, therefore, indirectly, it can hurt to be smart.

It depends on your definition of smart. If it is just book smart it can. It is wisdom & insight that will give you much more than smart ever will.

Yes, because knowledge is a burden, you loose things like intuition, hope, wishes that are logically impossible. Imagination is only logical, beliefs become a problem.
Intelligence also makes you over-realistic and thus sometimes depressed or pessimistic.

Yes. The pain comes from seeing the mass of stupidity in the world.

Sometimes. It hurts to think too much. It can be painful to know too much. Knowledge can be a great responsibility and a burden. That's why they say ignorance is bliss. It's easier.
