A bag of garbage was causing a HUGE fly problem for me, and I missed garbage pick-up day, and I would have had to wait another 5 days for the next pick up. Now I'm not joking around. I wake up in the morning and I'll have 8 or 9 flies to kill. One hour later there is 4 more, and so on and so on. I couldn't believe how many there was and how quickly they showed up. I am assuming it was from my bag of garbage, that has flies sitting all over it constantly. Anyway, I bought some garbage tags, put them on the garbage, and disposed of the garbage in a school's dumpster near my house. Can I get into trouble if someone saw me do this? Even if I meant well and still bought garbage tags?

You can, well in NY you can. We (where I work) get calls all the time about "Illegal Dumping". It is a "Theft of Services" in the New York State Penal Law. It gets so bad some places that the people who own the dumpster, go dumpster diving and pull out mail and bills with the culprits name on it and demand an arrest to be made. Hope you did not get seen and there was nothing with your name on it.

If you're really losing sleep over this, drop by the school and talk to/or leave a note for one of the custodians explaining the situation and that it was in an emergency . Assure them it won't be a regular thing!!!!!!! I'm sure they'll understand. Maybe check with your municipality and see if there is a drop off point for garbage emergencies in the future.

You probably could, if someone got your license plate number and reported it. If you explain the problem then they would most likely let it ride.

I used to have a dumpster for trash and people would dump their trash into it, and then I would have to pay to have it hauled away when the dumpster was full. So I can see where the school would be upset. If you only did it once then it's no big deal.

Deepends on where you live. In Haywood County N.C., it is against the law to "Put any garbage anywhere but the area set aside for that purpose". What that means is, if I was do to what you did and somebody saw me, turned me in, the Sheriff's office WILL comb thru the garbage and will probably find something w/ my name AND address on it. GOOD LUCK!?!?!?!?

I think you could get a ticket for illegal dumping if your school caught you.
