I'd love some good suggestions for mellow, quiet music to keep me calm in the birthing room--but NOT songs that could be potentially depressing or sad. Light classical would be best. Something "new age" would be okay. I would prefer it if you could possibly link to a legal short sample of the song/s too if possible. Thanks!

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata or some mellow Celtic harp would be up the right alley.

I have found that most women do indeed find soothing music helpful during their labor. It is advantageous to have listened to it ahead of your labor as well. I carry a 3-CD collection to births with me. It is called Sounds of Life: A Musical Journey for Childbirth and Beyond. You can hear segments of the music at www.windragemusic.com

Mozart. His music has been scientifically proven to raise IQs, help testers test better, and stimulate the regions of the brain dealing with most specifically mathematics. Might as well start giving your child that leg up on the competition by musically massaging their brain as they are born into the gloriousness of this technological world.

Yanni is always good to listen to. Most of his stuff is on Amazon, so you should be able to listen to clips. He does new-agey/classical style. I particularly like his piano ballads. You are likely familiar with some of his stuff because it was used during the Olympic games and frequently during Wide World of Sports.
Gotta tell you a story though. I made my very first downloaded song disks a few years ago. One of the disks had a combo of cowboy music, ballads and bubblegum music. My Mom brought it with her to work (she works at the hospital) and the operating room folks kept borrowing it. It has managed to make its way to the birthing rooms and gals actually like the combo even though this may not be their type of music normally. So, do listen to other stuff. You may find something else works for you better.

I listened to sounds of water and waterfalls and the ocean etc. When you have doctors coming in and out of the room all day checkin out your little kitty cat its really relaxing.

Music? What the hell do you think you'll be doing? Listening to it? lol.
I just watched football and paced the halls, and counted minutes until I could finally push.

Honey, I've been through this 3 times now and believe me... you're not even going to know there's music on anyway.
