i am moving from michigan to arkansas for college and want to take my 6 baby guppies and 1 baby molly with me. i would leave them here and get new ones there, but i dont want my little brother (who is caring for my other fish) to have to care for them too. what is the best way to get them there? individual containers all in cooler? i'm not too worried about them getting too cold because it'll be august. any suggestions??

thanks!

oh yeah, my family and i will also be stopping to stay in a hotel overnight. does that change anything? i can change the water while we are there.

also, are you saying that i should put the water directly in the cooler? and can the lid be on tight? or small containers within the cooler? thanks!

Personally I would use a small to medium sized cooler filled part way with clean dechlorinated water. Not tank water as it will foul more quickly. A stop or two along the way to open the top and refresh the air supply will be all that's needed for them to arrive safely.

I always just use a 5 gallon bucket. I moved about 20 fish in a 5 gallon, and the move took 11 hours of driving, plus all the packing and unpacking time. I didn't lose one fish. Use water from the tank, and a battery powered air pump wouldn't hurt, but I didn't use one.

My brother used to transport his fish from Dallas to Chicago every year when returning from college in a cooler. I would suggest anything other than a glass container. I think they would get too hot. Good Luck.

As long as you find a way that will supply air for them , it's important.
