so i raise rats and i'm interested in getting a snake that would be big enough to eat an adult rat. i'm not looking for some burmese python or anything, but a snake that's good for someone who isn't experienced with snakes. if you could also tell me what sized tank it should have also, i'd really appreciate it.

hi if your looking for a snake that can eat adult rat i would go with either a boa like a red tail or a jungle carpet Python as they both can and do eat adults very easily. and are easy to take care of and make nice pets when handled. now the others above i would have to disagree with them as they are great snake but with the size that adult rats can get it would cause to much stress on them even though they could eat them. but you wouldn't feed them like they should be feed as they would be eating one big meal then they would take time to digest it. now the two that i listed would do good living in a 50 gal tank with screen lid. I'm placing a link in here so every one can see how big an adult rat gets. as i said some of your smaller snakes as ball pythons and corns and bloods and your rats can eat adult rats but it is not a wise move as an adult live rat can hurt those really easy and the amount of stress of eat such a large prey could do more damage in the long run. this is rodentpro they have a size guide.

Rat snakes of any kind (most pet stores sell them) are a good choice. They are somewhat shy and easy to care for. You will need at least a 20 gallon tank to hold an adult though. As an adult, they will gladly eat full grown rats.
