It depends why it's hurting.

If it hurts because the glans (penis head) is too sensitive when touched, this is fairly common with uncircumcised guys and is actually pretty easy to "fix." Just pull back your foreskin and keep the entire glans exposed to the air for a few minutes each day. Also when you take a shower/bath, be sure to pull the foreskin back and wash underneath like any other part of your body. Over time (about a month or so, if not less) you should get used to the sensitivity and it'll become bearable.

But if it hurts because your foreskin is a bit tight/narrow and it's a little hard to pull it back, then you might have a mild condition called phimosis. This is also fairly easy to take care of (see links). This will also take a bit of time to "cure," but generally shouldn't take much longer than a month or so, probably less if it's mild.

If it hurts for neither of the two above reasons, then you might have an infection under the foreskin. Antibiotic or antifungal creams should solve that problem, but you should see a doctor for a prescription. Eating yogurt and drinking cranberry juice also helps fight yeast infections and reduces the chances of developing such infections in the first place.

A lot depends on your age and also on where it hurts. If you are young enough that you're just starting to have regular erections, then it's normal to be sore both on the glans and on the foreskin. The glans (head) has to get used to being exposed, and the foreskin needs to get used to pulling back. This discomfort will go away in a few days or weeks.

If it's the glans that is hurting, check to see if you might have a fungus or other infection there? If it's just a little sore but doesn't look infected, then you just need to get used to exposing it.

If it's your foreskin that hurts, then it might need a little stretching. This is common and not complicated. Jorge (another responder) has written about this extensively -- go to his profile and read some of his other answers.

You do NOT need circumcision! Healing from that would take a lot longer than doing the stretches, and then you'd be permanently mutilated.

You have to train it by stretching it when you shower. It's just not used to being pulled back.

As the other poster said, the foreskin keeps the penis very sensitive, but it shouldn't cause discomfort. I had the same case when I was younger and ever since I did that for a few weeks it's been perfect.

So just slide it back as much as you can without forcing it, and wash the head. Slowly it'll get used to being pulled back and being rubbed. Do this when you shower. You'll be fine. =)

I think Stephen M. has the solution. When my son was young this happened to him as well...he had developed an infection. With antibiotics before the surgery, and a partial circumcision he still has all his parts and no pain.

Don't wait any longer to see your doctor. That infection can hurt so bad you won't be able to pee.

that is something you want to check with your Dr. about. Has it always been painful or just recent? May be an infection. You should not have pain when the skin is pulled back.

there are skin expansion methods that require no surgery to stretch the flap. Also there is a surgical method:"Dorsal Slit" that they use in Europe to releave the skin with out removing the forskin.

there is nothing wrong. it is just that your penis is very sensitive when the foreskin is not covering it. your penis is not used to actual touch without the skin covering it so it is very normal. dont worry!
