Ellis Island (it's on koval behind bally's) - excellent steak dinner for $4.95. It's not a piece of garbage meal - it's actually VERY GOOD. You'd pay $25 on the strip for this. Service can be hit or miss - but the value is AWESOME. The best bargain in all of this great town i live in.

If price is not a big deal:

Delmonico's (at the V).
Bradly Ogden (at Caesars).

Each will give you renowned service. Wine list at Delmonico's is fantastic - with a TON of choices avail by the glass (nice).

if you want to try oriental food, you should try "Hue Thai." It's a Vietnamese restaurant located near Chinatown. They have some of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted and the place was rated one of the top 10 sandwich places in las vegas 2006. Plus, the food is pretty cheap.
if you just want an old fashioned steak, then you should try "Lawry's, the Prime Rib." Even though it is alittle bit pricey and formal, the service is upscale/excellent and the steaks come out juicy and moist. It is located on Flamingo Rd just past the strip on the east side.

It's not really a dive, but one of my favorite places on the strip is the Peppermill. It's more of a diner, but the portions are HUGE and everything is really good (the omelets are INSANELY huge). They also have this utra-cheesy (think Playboy, circa 1967) "Fireside Lounge" that you can have a drink in after dinner. Another cool place to go is the Center Stage restaurant in the Plaza Hotel on Fremont Street. It looks out onto Fremont street which is pretty cool. The food is just so-so, but it's a neat place to have dinner (it's built on what used to be a champagne-shaped swimming pool--and scenes from Casino were shot there.) If you like tapas and sangria, there's the Firefly on Paradise (just east of Tropicana). That's also in the same plaza as Marrakesh--six courses of Moraccan food complete with belly dancers (they only seat at certain times--so be sure to make reservations). If you like Sushi/Teppanyaki, there's also Hamada in the same plaza area on the northeast corner of Tropicana and Paradise as Lowry's (amazing steaks...), Bahama Breeze, McCormic and Schmick's (pretty good steaks and seafood--used to have an awesome Happy Hour, not sure if that's still there), and Gordon Bierch (a one of their beers and their artichoke hearts--yum!). Have fun!!

I have many favorites! Not sure if you like sushi/seafood, but makino has a huge selection. The best time to go is probably at lunch because it is a lot cheaper. You have to go the Rio buffet! It is a little pricey, but they have everything you can think of.... and the best desserts. Try "upper deck" in las vegas club hotel for midnight steak and eggs. It is no more than 5 dollars. An awesome deal!

My two favorite places on or near the strip are Roy's (on Flamingo) and Olives (at the Bellagio). Anything you get at either place is good - and I'm not kidding. My husband and I have eaten almost everything on their menu's between the two of us. They are moderately pricey, but the service is wonderful at both and they are very accomodating of food allergies. A+ in my book!

Hardrock: AJ's Steakhouse had a 10oz beef tenderloin filet that was perfect (a few years ago, anyhow)
Bellagio Sunday brunch buffet is one of the best.
Alladin has a Todai, Japanese buffet (lots of sushi variety)
The Mirage and Main Street Station had good buffets too.
So I like buffets a lot, I suppose.

At Hotel California downtown, they have a restaurant there that for $6.99 you get an all you can eat salad, prime rib-that is not rubber, but real quality meat, baked potato, green beans, and cherry jubilee.

I agree with Ellis Island being a good one on the cheap end.

Nobody has mentioned my favorite....Rosewood Grille.

Check out the reviews on my source. I love this place and it is on the strip and not in a casino.
