I'm helping my grandmother try to find a sweater pattern. She can't remember exactly what it is called, but it's something along the line of "Classic Sweater of the 40's." It's a turtlenecks sweater, and she said the Red Cross often made them for soldiers.

Here is an interesting article about knitting for the Red Cross during World War II. It shows a man's sweater but it is not a turtleneck.
