I think the Simpsons is 10 times better, but that's my opinion. (I love family Guy, too.)

I prefer Simpsons. Although it isn't what it was in it's prime. Go back about 10 years and nothing could touch it. The joy of DVDs.

They are two very different shows. The Simpsons originated the adult cartoon and have had a great run.
But I would have to say i prefer the comedy style of family guy.
As has been said on an episode of South Park, family guy's jokes very seldom have anything to do with the plot. Half of the jokes are just random allusions and completely irrelavent comments. But thats what makes Family Guy great. Its random and its hillarious.
On the other hand, the Simpsons tends to be a bit smarter. they take classic situations and complete absurd situations and make them even funnier than you thought they could be. There tends to be more parody of real life and the everyday. It also has classic characters that you can always compare to someone you know.
For the most part, Id say Family Guy is funnier to younger people. But the Simpsons is classic and deserves respect for having tis own brand of hillarity, and for pioneering adult cartoons.

If you had asked me to choose between the Simpsons and something else 10 years ago, I would have said the Simpsons because of its warped humor. 10 years later, while the show is still going, it shows its age, and it hasn't aged well, resorting to reanimating old jokes.
Being a fan of both, I have to say Family Guy. Even though the jokes have nothing to do with the storyline, at least they are still original!

oh my god i hat eyou for asking this question because im gona be going around for the rest of the week trying to come up with a answer. I'v love the simpsons since for as long as i can remember but in the last two or three years since i discovered family guy iv been completly addicted, gigaddy. Any other day i would have probally said family guy but since i just saw the simpsons movie today im not so sure any more. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Family Guy.
I used to watch the Simpsons when I was little. But if I watch it now, I feel the way I did when I was in school watching in the evenings getting ready for school the next morning. Makes me feel like I am 12 again or something. I don't know, it's just a weird feeling.

SIMPSONS....even thought it has fallen off in the last few years it is still the best animated show of all time. Family guy was good for a few seasons...but it has fallen off too.

Family Guy. D'oh. lol. I don't watch the Simpsons because when I start watching it I feel like I'm 10. Family Guy has more adult content and push the bar a little futher. Plus, it is funnier.

Simpsons!! Man back about 10 years ago, it was so much funnier. The characters looked funny, but the script was hilarious!
