I would like to set up my own web site and be able to host other peoples web sites, can anyone help with how and what I need to do this?

you could setup a server yes, as for hosting others websites that is a no no, you would not have the band width from your ISP to do that...

if you want to setup a server then got to the websites below and download linux server software for free. make sure you download the server versions, you will have no problems setting up a server. it is a auto setup.
