Take a square root of each side and you end up with
(x+4) = +/- 9

Remember the plus and minus when you do this.

Solve for x by
x+4 = 9
x+4 = -9

first take the sqrt of both sides causing: X+4= +/- 9
then you must have 2 equations (since there is a plus and a minus)
1.) x+4= 9
2.) x+4= -9

and solve for both..
