Aw sweetie, nothing to be embarrassed about :) Took me awhile to get the hang of them *lol*
In the box of the tamposn, there will be instructions with diagrams, follow these carefully. Here's a trick, try to do it sitting on the floor of your bathroom, and try to push slightly down and towards the back, do not ever push directly up.
Hope you have an easy time with tampons :)

Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Some women prefer to place one leg on the toilet seat or tub, while others prefer to squat down. After you find a position that is most comfortable for you, hold the tampon with the fingers that you write with. Hold the middle of the tampon, at the spot where the smaller, inner tube inserts into the larger, outer tube. Make sure the string is visible and pointing away from your body.
With your other hand, open the labia (the folds of skin around the vaginal opening) and position the tampon in the vaginal opening.
Gently push the tampon into the opening, aiming for the small of your back. Stop when your fingers touch your body and the applicator, or outer tube, is completely inside the vagina.
Once the applicator or outer tube is inside of you, use your index finger to push the inner tube (the tube where the removal string is visible) through the outer tube. This pushes the tampon into the vagina.
Once the inner tube is all the way in, use your thumb and middle finger to remove the applicator or outer tube. Make sure that the string hangs outside of the vaginal opening. Later, when you are ready to remove the tampon, hold the string and gently pull it downward until the entire tampon is out.
If the tampon is inserted correctly, you should not feel it. If you feel uncomfortable in any way, you may have inserted the tampon incorrectly or the tampon may not be placed far enough into the vagina. If this happens, just remove the tampon and start again with a new tampon. Remember that practice makes perfect. If you don't get it on the first try, your second try will most likely be successful. Instead of getting frustrated and giving up, relax and try again!

Find a comfortable place to sit or stand. With the hand that you write with firmly hold the tampon withyour thumb and middle fingers on the side. On the tip (not the one where the tampon will come out) put your pointer finger. The put into your vj until ur fingers are on your skin. Then gently push the tampon in. If you can feel it alot take it out and try again with a new one. It takes time so don't worry if the first time it doesn't work don't give up.
When taking it out genlty pull the sting( if you can't find it try pushing down hard or finding it with your fingers) until it comes out. You can flush it down the toliet but it can clog systems if you have a bad one.
Also it helps if you put alittle spit (it's gross but it works) on the tip to help it go in smoother. Also your vj is at an angle so tilt it back twoards your lower back to help. But remember when taking it out pull at that same angle and it will feel sooooo much better.
Best of luck!!
p.s. if you still can't figure it out look at the insert in the box.
p.p.s. don't leave it in for more than 8hrs. you could get a rare but serious disease TTS. Also use the smallest absorbancy for your need. At the end of your flow you don't need a super plus tampon.

I'd like to add one thing. Having the tampon lubricated makes things much easier. So wait until your period is pretty heavy, or get KY Jelly. Don't take the tampon out until it's soaked, or the dry tampon will drag against your vj and it will hurt. The first time--get the slenders.
Off you are, darlin' completely initiated into the annals of the knowledgable woman.
