4 years (At least) of undergraduate to get her Bachelor's Degree.

4 years of Medical School

2+ years of residency, depending on what she wants to specialize in.

Pre Med is not a major that can be used to get a decent job if she decides not to go to Med school.

She should major in a field that she is interested in, since it does not matter what major she has...only that she fulfills the requirements for Med School admissions where she wants to go.

I would recommend a minor in premed, though, to make sure that she is able to complete the med school requirements.

Pre-med means she will take a considerable amount of undergraduate courses including chemistry, biology, math, etc., that will be needed when and if she enters medical school. She needs her bachelors degree of four years, then attempts to be accepted in a medical school or has to go on for a graduate degree in a related field. Once she graduates from medical school, another four-plus years, there is still residency which requires further education. In toll there is usually nine years after the bachelors and without scholarshis the costs range into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, some states have WICHE grants that are paid back when the person receives their MD and works in the state hospital system for a specific amount of years.

If you want to be a doctor, it will take a long time, your parents better have a lot of money (or your gonna have to take out a large loan), and being a resident for a few years SUCKS.
