Why is this question in here? But I have heard of these "temporary marriages" with certain muslim people here. I don't know if it is really a concept in Islam though. Basically, the couple say they are "married" for a certain length of time (2 days, 2 weeks, a year, etc.). Then, they are "married" meaning they can now have sex. After the "marriage" time is over, they can renew, or not. And you can get "divorced" by saying that you are now divorced. At least that is what I have heard about it all...

Only temporary marriage I know of is pagan handfasting. You 'marry' for a year. Then either you two go your own way or you marry legally. Some think handfasting is just a pagan marriage (legal and everything) so, I think there is variation. Anyway, only one I know of.
