That's a difficult proposition. In our state, if you are trespassing on someone else's property, you can be killed dead. Now I am a pleasant agreeable sort of person, but my wife is much more proactive. I would probably just mention to my wife, that someone has broken into the house and then try to stay out of the way as much as possible. I would of course, be expected to clean up the mess afterwards. She doesn't mind spilling blood, but she is not particularly fond of looking at it! (LOL)

I have a bat at the top of the stairs, I would run downstairs with it, making a lot of noise.
Hopefully they would go and I would ring the police. They would probably get away but, ah well.

Turn on the lights and let them get a sight of my dog, who looks tough but is an absolute Baby, they'll run for sure!!!

Pull out the pellet gun, and if I didn't have enough time, I have a meat cleaver and a thick cheese knife in the kitchen.
