I know that here in Calif. that some of them are for data colllecting, seeing how the officer handles a situation, etc.

In Calif. so many people want to file against the police force like misconduct, assaults, and , if you can believe it, rape......

What a society, the good guys have the handcuffs on, the bad guys get off on technicalities, what a society.

Yes, I agree with police abuse, but not here in Calif. They have ten cop cars for every arrest that I've seen.

With ten cops saying that someone did "this", the suspect has only one say, saying the cops harrassed him like "that".

So sad, how the judicial system works against police officers now.....

One is for their dispatcher, One is for the sheriff's radio frequency, one is for the state troopers frequency, One is for computer interface, and usually one is for their CB radio. They can also have different frequencies like secure tach freg so scanners can't pick them up and monitor them. Then each substation can also have it's own frequency. Then there is the 911 frequency which can also be different and require a different antenna.

Most probably what you are seeing are patrol cars that are capable of tracking vehicles equipped with "LoJack" type anti- theft devices. They will have four short antennas arranged in a square pattern.
