Believe it or not, Americans come from all peoples of the world.

I could have grown up speaking French because my great grandparents were French, or Philippino. Big dfference, eh?

Americans in general are Americans. The cultural aspects can be annoying sometimes, especially for foreigners. I understand the irritation that goes on. America does have many cultural downfalls, as does every other country. I'm Asian-American and having trouble with the culture. I just got back from Asia. I don't fit the status quo very well.

As for pretending to be knowledgable...some people are just that way. Am I pretending to be knowledgable? If I were, then don't worry about what I just said.

Hey, genius, one question mark is sufficient to indicate an interrogative.
To answer your question, I'd venture a guess that people (in general) pretend to be knowledgeable regarding those subjects in which they are truly not because of pure ego.
This is, however, simply a guess.
It is also not exclusive to Americans. The nationality of people I've personally experienced doing this with the seemingly highest rate of proliferation is Canadian. Though it's easy to confuse Canada with the United States, I suggest next time you're ranting at a globe, you look a little to the south to find the target of your jingoist vitriol. As I'm certain you have an unnatural hatred of all things American, we're south of the big nation spelled C A N A D A.
Perhaps it is simply the Americans with whom I choose to associate myself, but the people I know are not afraid of those magic three words you seem to crave, "I don't know."
Considering your question was in a tone both derogatory and demeaning, you also seem to crave some sort of 'recognition' regarding your (in your own most humble of opinions, I'm certain) obviously superior intellect and vast reservoirs of knowledge.
While one can assume your grey matter is a veritable cornucopia of facts, trivia, and minutiae with which one can further assume you completely astound the local genii at the MENSA Pub which you frequent, I find your question lacking in substance, and reeking of self-gratifying intellectual masturbatory ego stroking of the basest type.
In short: you, sir, are a dolt.
Have a day.

That's a very broad statement. Clearly you think YOU know Americans. I think your lens is too narrow... wanting to seem more/better informed isn't specific to Americans. I think it's a western trait. Perhaps it seems to be more common in those nations because we value "being right" and due to our competitive natures. Maybe you just need to learn more about various cultures; it might help to add some perspective.

We have no culture, therefore we copy or simulate other cultures who also pretend to be knowledgeable.

p.s. In America, we spell knowledgeable with 2 e's.

Oh, yeah, like America is the only place this happens! People like attention, and they like to be a part of the conversation. This is not an exclusively-American phenomenon.

Everyone who thinks they know ANYthing, is pretending to be knowledgable.

The Oracle at Delphi said that Socrates was the wisest of all.
Socrates was the wisest of all because he knew he wasn't wise. Try that on for size, paradox!

They want to appear smarter than they are. I know several people who have argued the cause of fetal alcohol syndrome with me and stick to their idea of the father was drunk and continued to drink during the pregnancy. It is very aggravating, but they can think what they want.

We're brought up hearing "we live in the best country in the world" - nationalism is definitely not dead!

We are told we are getting the best education possible, that we are the most intelligent people anywhere - and so we assume that we are! When in reality, our pubilc schools really teach very little of the world.
