I put in some turtle food just about 2 days ago and my red ear sliders are not eating them. I put in 2 and I have 2 turtles. Why are the turtles not eating the food? How long will they survive without eating?

There are various ideas on the quantity of pellets you should feed your turtle. Hatchlings should receive more protein in their diet - approximately 50% of their entire diet. Since turtle pellets can contain more than 40% protein (Reptomin for instance), adding the occasional cricket, guppy or earthworm can round out their diet. For older turtles, pellets should compromise between 10-25% of the diet. It is appropriate to offer vegetables daily - even if they initially refuse. You may have to try different varieties to see which kind your RES would take. RES over a year old should be given pellets every other day or every two days.

You may also want to check the water. Water is very important to your turtle. You never want to give them tap water to drink. It is also best to give them natural spring water or non- chlorinated water for swimming in. Chlorine and other chemicals of tap water can cause bacteria in their digestive systems.

Did you just get the turtles? If so just wait they will eat there just nervous. How big are they if they are adults this is normal and can last months. If babys just wait they should come around. If they dont make sure the tempature of the water is a least 70

Since you won't say what you are feeding them or how you are keeping them, it is really impossible to answer your question. But, I will tell you that baby turtles LOVE earthworms. Insects and small fish work well too.
Why won't you read up on turtle care? You want them to live, don't you?

Turtles love tuna. Try giving them what they like.
