humans just fear what they don't know a lot about. Ghosts are so different than us, says many people. Really, the ghosts fear us in a way, too. We fear them because we can't see them or have a sort of control on them

the unknown. This has plagued humanities deepest thoughts for ages. Reports of attacks by unseen creatures do little to help the view of ghosts in our culture either.
I have a statement though, Shadow people should be feared not disembodied voices and creepy see-through thingys.
It is well known that shadow people have no good intentions for humanity.

ghosts are feared by humans only because of the superstitions humans have heard and movies they've seen. ghosts started out as simple spirits, but now, have many powers in movies. i assume that one of the main reasons they are feared is the fact that they can't be seen. most humans fear what they think is around, but can't see.

The same reason they fear anything else. They don't understand, and it's easier to avoid and be afraid than to dig up any information outside of folklore or the horror movies to go from. Science is catching up. Equipment is being made every day that is sensitive to different types of energy. It's only a matter of time now.

Actually, US citizens seem to be the only people afraid of ghosts...in most other cultures, dead people are celebrated (think Day of the Dead in Mexico)...for some reason, though, we Americans tend to get the idea that ghosts will inflict horror and pain, and I have no idea where that comes from...

Because we fear the unknown. Also silly Hollywood movies have trained us to do so. Look for an old World of Disney movie called The Child Of Glass. Its sad and sweet.

To me the answer is simple. People fear the unknown, and Hollywood special effects are pretty scary. Scarier than misplaced astral energy.
