I'm a gamer, into hard core gaming. I would like a card that can run most games maxed, but low price. Which one would you recommend? Which one is faster when it comes to great gaming. I know the 7900 has 256-bit and the 8600 has dx10 capibilities. I play games like GTR2, Obilvion, CS , HL2: EP1, all need for speed games, San andreas, DiRT, etc. I've heard that the 8600 has a memory bandwidth of 22gb/s while the 7900 has a memory bandwidth of 44 gb/s.

Which one do you think is best for me?

It's quite simple- the 7900 has better raw performance. If you're running Vista and care more about DX10 support for future releases (no games have it yet) then get the 8600- but understand that you'll be giving up a little speed. If you just want the fastest in-game framerates for the price, get the 7900 (Or a Radeon X1950 Pro)

The 7900 is better for today's games by a little , however if you want to play the new games get the 8600 , It has DX10 support , I believe the 7900 does not. I myself own the PNY Verto Geforce 8600 GTS 256mb and it's a great card , it can run all my games I play at max settings. The 8600 also has great HD video playback.Hope this helped.
