I need to polish up my conversational skills at work and socially. I'm in a management position at a young age and need to be able to talk to anyone - especially small talk. Any recommendations? Nothing jumped out at me at B&N

I'm not a talkative person. I really don't have much to say to strangers but I would like to be able to make small talk. I was an only child so I am used to being alone and not socializing.

Maybe joining some sort of discussion group would help you more. I figure it like this, if a person wanted to learn how to swim reading all the books in the world about it won't mean a thing until they actually get in the water. Hope this helps.

It seems to me that if you want self-help, you want something that relates to confidence and self-assuredness.

But anything you read, in fact, any life experience, will help you in conversation because you talk about THAT. It works on the surface as the topic (small talk), as well as helping you with building deeper relationships...since it tells people a little about who you are, what you like to do.
