do you think they do it for a reaction or do they actually think those things? example: dr. doris. do you think she is just a fake trying to get people mad? does stuff like that bother you or do you just not care, because it kind of makes me upset.
and yea i probably gave her satisfaction right now but i just want to know what everyone else thinks.

I think they do it for both reasons. I think some also do it for attention. When people are mean to others because of ones sexual preference, race, or religion it's to be mean and judgmental. So if somebody is saying things to you for one of those reasons, ignore them as best as you can. And feel sorry for them because maybe they are not as secure with themselves as you are.

Allison,

This question has been asked a few times on Yahoo Answers. The likes of Dr. Doris exist for several purposes. It serves as a reminder that there is still much to do in educating people about homophobia. It also serves as "entertainment value" for the sick, dark and twisted sense of humor that I have (and my alter ego is NOT Dr. Doris, her name is Dumplings of the May'D Yin Chai Na House). Finally she serves as a reminder of the reality of homophobia in both the real and cyber-world.

These comments should make one upset. But if we were to really look at our reactions and their way to stir up our reactions, we would soon discover a pattern. The pattern is that they are projecting a fear of what they don't understand onto us. They are projecting their fears on us. While we certainly can argue with them until we are blue in the face (or in this instance, type until our fingers fall off), it still does not change the fact that they are afraid of something they do not understand.

Instead of reacting, don't. Don't patronize these childish behaviors. I know it's hard and I certainly have been guilty of responding with my half-dimwitted smarta** remarks. The important thing is to realize we have our work cut-out for us and not to take this personally. Cheers and thanks for asking!

Sometimes in here it is impossible to tell what is written as a joke and what is written by imbeciles. Of course for some topics like religion, there really isn't much difference.

I cannot say if they mean it or not. What is important is, why does it matter to you what they say?
