No, someone usually pays for the gift then gives it to someone for free. A free gift would mean no one paid for it.

I guess by definition for a free gift you get paying nothing. Perhaps a gift is the little gift you get with those 19.95 offers

A "free" gift is something that they are giving away to EVERYBODY - while just a "gift" has to be given for a reason (or WITH PURCHASE) ;););)
