Grand total of pencils
4+7+12+11=34 pencils
alex,beth, charles diane 4/4=1 each
alex and beth 7 / 2= 3 1/2 avg each
alex 3.5
beth 3.5
alex and charles 12/2 = 6avg each
alex 6
charles 6
alex and diane 11 /2 = 5 1/2
alex 5.5
diane 5.5
Totals
Alex 1+3.5+6+5.5 = 16
Beth 1+3.5 = 4.5
Charles 1+6=7
Diane 1+5.5=6.5
16.0
4.5
7.0

Hey the answer is Beth, reason being Beth can never have more then 6 pencils, whilst all the other candidates range from having 6 pencils or more
