I need peoples opinions here. I'm 20 years old and have worked at a different auto shop for 6 months prior to the job you're going to hear about. I just started at this new job where I was supposed to be a Automotive Apprentice (Mechanics Helper). I've worked there 2 days and am horribly stressed! The first day is the day I dropped of my resume, I was hired instantly and went to work immediately did some typical work at firs. At the end of the day I was told to bring in an Astro van for a " No Start " so I diagnosed it as needing a fuel pump and it could use a tune up, so I ordered the parts then went home. The next day I go to work and start that job immediately. There is 1 other "mechanic" , he was given a water pump on a 350CI Van and a Power steering hose. I finished my crappy van job way before he finished his and I was thinking in my head o my lord. After that job the service writer comes back and says theres a work order for a Bronco in need of front pump seal. Continued.....

So the other mechanic dude brings it in and pops the hood.? I was in the middle of doing some tires and just walked over and asked, "So what are you doing?" he said " Work order says I have to do front pump seal, but it doesn't look too bad." I say " Well the front pump seal is between the Transmission and the engine and you can't see that from up here" He's just like ohh ok I'll lift it up then. I go back to tires then the service writer comes out and is like "Alright I have to get Brett(me) on that Bronco II and I'll get Lloyd (shoddy Mechanic) to help with tires, I need that job done." So at 4 o'clock I get sent over there he has one bracket "off" and the driveshaft off that's it. So within that next hour I pulled the Transfer Case, got all the brackets out of the way , linkages un hooked, and all the wires unplugged. So all that's left is the bellhousing bolts. Now I've never done trans. work , and I have nobody there that can teach me it seems. Should I Quit? Work my own pace?

By the sounds of it you are the top mechanic.

The boss already wants you to do the big jobs - so I would say - tell him you want top pay.

Tell him you have never dome tranny before, no big deal, he knew you were not a master tech before you started so I am sure he will understand.

Stick with it for a while and see where you end up.

He might even spend the extra time/money to send you off for college and get you ASE certified.

That is worth the headaches for a few months.

Look for another job while you keep this one. Dropping your resume at other shops does not take a long time. Do it at lunch or before you go to work. If they ask for an interview get one at lunchtime.

LIfe is too short to work some place you do not enjoy what you do. If you can manage to get all of your certifications and required hours in then a job at a dealership as a technician would open up to you. Those mechanics do very well; good working conditions and good income.

Not being too informed on mechanical issues I still get the gist of the situation, my thoughts is they have seen your resume (here in England we call that a C.V) so they should know what your skills are and to ask you to do something you are not skilled in seems neglegant on their part. I would suggest you tell them and ask them for training if this is what they want you to do. I would not quit but I would look for a more responsible employer. To quit would show on your resume. If they do not offer you training is there anyone higher than this person who told you to do this job you could talk to. They obviously feel you are the better mechanic but you cannot do jobs that you are not trained up on. Talk to someone, maybe a union rep. I hope this helps some. Best wishes for your future.

the merchandising field is very aggressive and, in maximum organization environments is comparatively decrease-throat. With that throughout recommendations...whilst you're fired, you will no longer get a sturdy advice from the organization, yet you are able to assemble unemployment till you come across some thing else. in case you end, you will no longer get a sturdy advice from the organization and wouldn't have any money till you come across some thing else. undergo in recommendations once you're taking a job that: a million) It takes 6 months to a three hundred and sixty 5 days to "slot in" with the corporate custom you enter; 2) you will no longer obtain a great style of coaching, training, etc. The organization will anticipate you to appreciate what to do and could criticize you once you do no longer; 3) in basic terms be optimistic you're constantly networking and development relationships with different companies so as that your face and contact are recognised 4) in no way paintings for unfastened -- It units a nasty priority and a organization would be plenty extra in all probability to take earnings of you.

place sounds like they want someone cheap and dont care how the job is done...MOST places require a trained and certified mechanic....who has verifyable training certificates..for differant parts of the vehicle...and tranny work is a class all by itself. YOUR TOO good for this place pal

Rough call. Evidently, the boss thinks you are a good worker and that may mean moving up faster. That's your call however. If you don't like the job then start looking for another position. good luck.
