I have only have 2 people that I regularly IM with and maybe another 5 or 6 that check in once in a while.

Five, on a given day, and I hate it when three or more on talking at the same time. Also have one that doesn't have IM capacity so it's by email. Those come quick enough to qualify for IM.

I have a lot on my messenger list, but only two or three that I actually chat with. And I use it occasionally to talk to the desk monkey at the shop.

As my kids dont live with me, i sometimes IM with them, a couple of ex army mates, a few friends off here.
