Hello,
I am a 16 year old model from London.. I wish to be the next Naomi Campbell- so I have decided to move to New york, as I believe there will be more opportunities available for me..
However, I haven't a clue about how I am to move, the procedures ( if i need a visa etc.), where I should stay and how much I would need to bring with me ( to get me started)..
I love fashion, so ideally I would like to stay in a fashionable area, close to shops and FAR away from crime.
Please could someone kindly advise me on the best places to live and roughly how much money I would need..
Thank You

My little sister is a model in NY City. I can tell you that one of the biggest things you can do is make sure that you don't move there unless at least one of your parents goes with you. There are an unbelievable number of very dishonest people who will promise you the world but when you show up you'll be expected to prostitute yourself...literally. Find a good modeling agency. DO NOT take drugs in order to fit in or in order to cope with the stress. DO NOT believe all the flattery people will give. The modeling world has some lovely people but it also has some very powerful and superficial crumbs.
Never forget that beauty fades and to those people, it is all about beauty. My sister was told that the average model is considered 'old' after she turns 25. You have to be OK with someone telling you that you're too fat, then the next day another customer tells you that you're too skinny, too short, too tall, too blond, too busty, not busty enough, etc. If you can't take rejection, this is not the career for you.
If you can find a good modeling agency, those people can usually assist you in getting all the necessary paperwork. My sister used to travel to Europe, South America, and South Africa, and there were often apartments set up for the models to stay in while they were there.
Please don't just "show up" in NY City and expect to immediately become a super model. I can promise you it won't happen and you might end up in real trouble.
I know I haven't made the life of a New York model sound fun, safe, and glamorous, but I've told you the truth. Good luck!

As others have stated speak with your agent/manager and of course your family first.
Unfortunately emigrating to the United States is darn near impossible for pretty much anyone who doesn't have direct family members already living there and there is a lesser chance trying to gain residency though employment based immigration. The link I have provided below will help with various resources and information.
If being in New York or America is your main focus may I suggest considering studying over there? This is actually something I am in the process of doing myself, although at 16 I am not sure if you would be old enough, but certainly worth looking into if you wish to pursue your career path.
As far as crime goes, there is crime in every major city anywhere in the world. If you wish to live in the city, then you cannot escape it.

NYC is a fashion, and high industries city, but also it a high crime city also, but not that much, but you know crowded cities always like that, if you want to move from England to NYC that would be easy, but first talk with your family first, or your manager, about your moving, they will plan your destination.

If you are a hot cookie then your agent will roll out the red carpet for you... You shouldn't have to worry about anything but your next trip to the gym.

If you are a model you should have a agent. Speak to him/her and they will give you advice. Most of them wouldn't advise. Have words with them.
