Ignorance... Our Nation has slid into a mindset and trapset by the right wing fundamentalist neanderthals who are only concerned with profiteering at any cost. Our moral decay has invited the concept that what's ours is ours and to hell with anyone who needs, asks, requires, or is unfortunate enough live a lifestyle that under scrutiny doesn't measure up to elitist expectations. The hate and intolerance demon named REVENGE has invaded the hearts and minds of conservative thugs and religious junkies to the point we lash out like a wounded serpent at anyone without thought to try and appease our egotistical psyche. War has become the first and foremost concept and retaliation has transcended common sense and reason. Corporate America in it's never ending and insatiable greed has bought and paid for our government and is the prime culprit for poisoning the minds of America.

Not everyone in America is pro-war, pro-death penalty, and pro-Bush. People think all kinds of things in America because America is about being allowed to think whatever you want.

one of the bedrock principles of economic success is that the person who wishes to succeed must take responsibility for her or his own progress.
Most of what people think of as "helping our own" doesn't actually work ... which is why we had to have the Workfare reforms of 1996. Jobs are the best form of assistance ever created.
As now retired Stanford economist Lawrence J. Lau showed in a series of early 1990s papers, there are only two things which actually lead to increased incomes ..
1. paid jobs
2. capital investment
He went on to show that the only ways to effectively increase your income from your job are
A. improve learning
B. improve health
C. use more capital equipment
{NB: America is the world leader in hours worked per worker-year, so the added contribution from improving worker health is somewhat limited.}
In a series of even earlier papers addressing why some countries have strong economic growth and others have little or none, Professor Lau's work suggests that successful countries have the following three characteristics:
1. private property consistently enforced
2. lack of warfare at home
3. worker or family responsibility
***
So I suggest that the answer to all of your questions is likely 'responsibility'. Conservative America has a serious grasp on responsibility. We know that the person who wants to get ahead has the world's best opportunity here in America [so do all the illegals who come here] -- if s/he is willing to do what it takes to move forward.

That was the case six years ago. However, now, Americans have finally come to realize that George W. Bush and his entourage of Republicans, are out for nothing but themselves. He has the lowest rating for any President except Herbert Hoover, another Republican, who brought on the Great Depression of 1929.

This is the most generous nation on Earth. We are not pro war, but we are willing to fight, (death penalty) you take a life of an innocent and you forfeit your own...sounds fair...(pro Bush) Bush has integrity so he garners his share of support...and as far as helping it's own...even our poorest most down trodden person is so much better off then 75% of the world that it can hardly be compared.

This Country does help its own, but the trouble is people wanting the help want it all for free without any strings attached on paying back, learning to work forward or getting their hands dirty by optimistically using the leverage others provided for them in digging them out of the hole their in... And lumbering in oppression because receiving grief and pity-type attention suits their needs more than becoming self-supportive.

Honey, we do help our own. Our "poor" are richer than most of the poor in the rest of the world. No one is "pro war" but we don't sit around and let others bully us either.
