Hi
We are going to the Hacidenda Dominicus in December and are wondering whether smoking is allowed in public enclosed areas? We are both non smokers and are a bit concerned that we cant find any information on the internet pertaining to any restrictions on smoking in enclosed public areas. Can anyone advise me.

Thanks for any help

Unless things have changed, the hotels in Santo Domingo still have smoking in the rooms AND huge cockroaches, too.

I'll never go back to S.D. because it seems everyone smokes there. Anyway, you may want to check with the hotel or have your travel agent check and GET IT IN WRITING if they promise you a non-smoking vacation...

We have travelled to D.R. 3 or 4 times, in the past we found the smoking in hotels which were 5 star to be very disturbing. We no longer vacation there I was totally digusted with ghe fact that there was no where a non smoking family could be without being bombarded with cigarette smoke. We requested non smoking rooms only yo find that the stench travels through the duct work and tourists were puffing away on their balconies and on the beach. We now vacation in Mexico that country is up to par with Canada and U.S. smoking bans.

In my experience smoking is definitely allowed in the hotels. If you are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, have a heart condition or have little children with you, get informed with your hotel asap. They allow smoking throughout the hotels enclosed or not .Tourist especially from Europe love to smoke, and smoke alot anywhere and everywhere regardless who is around them. That was my observation.

Due to the fact that the only smokers are the tourist in the hotels. The employees are not allowed to smoke. So everything the people tell is rather "bad talk" than the reality.
I´m a VIP tour operator so I know what i´m talking about. So don´t worry you will have smoke free holiday. I was a huge smoke before, now I can´t stand people who are smoking.
Enjoy your holiday!

Unluckily there isnt any non smoking policy.
It is not true than everyone smokes here. Most people do not smoke. If you go to a resort it`s the tourists that you will find smoking.

Got back last night from La Romana and the smoking wasn't allowed even in the open air restaraunts. I wouldn't be concerned.

if you are really such a vehemently anti smoker person, you should consider the British Virgin Islands.....they, being part of the British Empire and the Nanny State, have just put into effect no smoking

in public accessible buildings ( hotels, restaurants, bars, marinas)
within 50 feet of public buildings
on all the beaches

Now if they would put in a law forbidding DRINKING in public spaces so we didn't have to deal with loud drunks driving their cars into us.....

That is one of the things that bothers me about living here. This country is still uncivilized and smokers inflict their dirty discusting and unhealthy habit on you.

You are unfortunately SCREWED.
