My dad recently inherited $500,000. He told me that if I wanted to start a business, he would help me out (not all of it, of course). I have been thinking about it alot lately and I just can't seem to come up with anything. I'm really sick and tired of working for "the man". Please help me out with ideas. I don't have the slightest clue but I'm young (29). I know I'll have regrets if I don't go for it. Thanks.

It would be in Ogden, Utah. Cost of living is low out here and so are wages.

♠ a Jew once told me, you must suffer from itch to start a busyness, you must want it like an emergency to p.i.s.s, else discard the idea or you gamble away!
♣ once I had been working for a “Big Man” like you. I quit. So I understand your feelings. Is your Dad in busyness? Ask him to hire you, and start learning from him.

33% of Americans say they'd like to be self-employed.

The trick is that being successfully self-employed will require 80 hour (or longer) weeks. Perhaps not every week, and certainly some weeks, and quite possibly the most inconvenient ones.

In order for you to happily put in those 80+ hour weeks, you'd better be doing something you love. [If you're doing something you don't love, every customer will figure it out sooner or later and no one likes a surly supplier, so they'll find someone else.]

I suggest, therefore, that your question is really about yourself -- what do you love doing?

That's where you can start a business with some good chances.

It's up to you now.

DON'T QUIT - NOT IN THIS ECONOMY!
No matter how much you hate your current job, hold onto it like a life raft.
