Basically you will be pulling data off of someone else's system.

In human terms, this is like walking into a restaurant and letting (possibly multiple) strangers hand feed you some of their meal. Will you get sick? Depends on how clean they are or if they are out to hurt people because it brings them money or enjoyment.

Nasty, huh? Well computer viruses and spyware are made to make someone money or just plain annoy you. So, if you are --REALLY-- afraid, best to stay away.

If you feel daring. Update Windows, get yourself some anti-virus and spyware removers. Just remember, this is hot computer to computer action, use protection.

relatively safe just watch what you download. word of advice don't download .mpg or .mpeg files people have found ways to load virus into the coding of these videos. I would recommend getting peer guardian and Adaware Se both these programs are free.

AdAware - spyware remover

Yeah, don't use them! The amount of malware on P2P networks is staggering. The malware writers have figured out that pirates are a good target. Since they're breaking the law themselves, they won't likely complain about the occasional hijacking of their computers.
