Once upon a time (can't remember when, but very long time ago) I was once told that you just put your Advanced Degrees on your business card, such as a Phd.

Now I'm in my mid 30 - work in an accounting firm, almost every one puts their Bachelor's Degrees after their names. e.g. John Smith B Bus - or if they are a CPA or CA, John Smith B Bus CPA - or if they have some other degrees that are not relevant to accounting, John Smith B Bus B IS CPA

Is this appropriate?

Someone told me - well, you have it you flaunt it. But is this appropriate?

What do you put on your business cards?

Our HR manager actually said it's up to us what we want to include... which brought me to this yahoo answer - as I'm curious what people do out there...

You put the qualification that's relevant to your job in the firm and you may have to comply with your professional body's bylaws. For e.g. I have a degree in accounting, but I cannot put B.Acc on my card. I can put FCPA (Australia) and any other postgrad degrees like PhD, but not if I have something like a degree in childcare cos that's totally irrelevant to my current job. If you work other than for yourself, your HR dept will be in charge of printing of name cards and they'll have to follow the firm's standard policy on this.

Oh ok, if your HR dept says do what you want, I'd suggest you stick to degrees which are relevant to your job. Too many diverse qualifications will make others wonder at whether you know what you want. It might make you look inadequately focused.

I have recently qualified for my PhD I have a number of qualifications including a Masters in my main and original discipline (nursing) and now I have a PhD in Medical Science... its a slight tangent of discipline so I am planning on a card that includes my PhD but dumps my 4 post graduate qualifications (clinical and teaching), leaving my Masters (nursing) & my RN status (critical care) because I am doing a lot of clinical research and dealing with medical institutions, as such they like to see the RN status is current for ethics and dealing with patients etc. However, because I have changed disciplines I am told I should include my discipline for my PhD as (MedSci). I am proud of my PhD and I am including it, I am 50+ and have a working professional life of 38 years, people of my vintage are going to have a lot behind them.. I ve worked hard in all manner of places and environments... the tall poppies can be grateful I am not including my 5 military service medals as well lol!

Well it all depends in what kind of Company ou are working for....if it is an organisation where the TEAM matters rather than the BOSS....there is no need for the qualifications to be placed before ur name...However, if it is a traditional hirearchial company.....you can try.
I suggest that you can have two sets of cards....onwe with qualifications and other without.....
Further...it will always be nice to have small corporate message behid the card......it goes a long way and gives a message about you and your company.
