My husband has been relocated to Baton Rouge, LA. Neither of us care to live in the city, however. Is there anywhere I can go to get info on the towns surrounding Baton Rouge? Schools, community . . .? We are kind of making a blind move and I don't want to move into a bad area. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I lived outside of Baton Rouge for 5 years (in Prarieville). I think the best bet would be live outside of the city in a suburb. The upside I can say is the people in LA are really friendly and there is lots to do, Baton Rouge is right by New Orleans. I put some websites below. The first is the official city website and the second is about the schools. Good luck with your move.

I have relatives who used to live in Baton Rouge and now live here - it is kind of rural and I like it much better than Baton Rouge:

Wikipedia has lots of information as well as links. Check that out. Also, check out the local website of the city / town. www.city-data.com/forum also has lots of discussion on specific states and cities.

Have fun!

You can write to or evem e-mail the Louisiana state chamber of commerce or tourist bureau to get state information. The best thing would be to take a trip there and look around for yourself before packing up and hailing your life there.
